27/03/2011 - Brander support local Musher in Alaska Challenge

We were very pleased to sponsor local dog musher Wattie McDonald from Aberdeen to help him take part in the 2011 Iditarod.

This is an extremely taxing 1200 mile race from Anchorage to Nome in Alaska which at one point crosses the frozen seas. It is a real test of endurance, fitness, determination, skill and his ability in nursing his dogs safely through this length of a challenge in the toughest of winter conditions.

Ian Brander said "Whilst he started slowly in this his second Iditarod, Wattie climbed his way up through the field to finish in a very creditable 36th position taking 11 days 23 hours to complete the challenge. He is a local oil industry worker and is a colourful character in Alaska, nicknamed the Tartan Musher. We are delighted to be able to help Wattie in a small way realise his dreams. This is a very costly race to take part in and complete, as no expense is spared in ensuring the welfare of his dogs. So if we can help him to keep both he and his dogs safe we are very pleased to contribute. It takes amazing guts to do this challenge."
